Anton Webern (3 Dec 1883 – 15 Sept 1945) was an Austrian composer.
He was a member of the so called Second Viennese School.
As a student and significant follower of Arnold Schoenberg,
he became one of the best-known proponents of the twelve-tone technique;
in addition, his innovations regarding schematic organization of pitch, rhythm and dynamics
were formative in the musical style later
known as serialism.

「在他的作品中，不同音高的各音之間的結合，不再像傳統音樂那樣，以某個音為中心；不協和和弦也不再像傳統的音樂那樣，需要『解決』到協和和弦。他從表現主義美學思想中汲取靈感，先後創作了一批無調性作品，成為第一位放棄調性的作曲家。他的音樂語言誇張、變形、怪誕。」
西方古典音樂到瓦格納時期，已經發展到了頂點。作曲家再也不能再寫出比前人更新更好的旋律來了，所以，就需要找一條新的路子。就是勳伯格，他開啟了現代古典音樂的大門，作曲家從此再也不被傳統的音樂規律所束縛，在作曲時得到了極大的自由。所以，賈教授說，聽現代古典音樂，必須用不同的「耳朵」，因為現代古典音樂是用完全不同於古典音樂的「語言」來寫的。現代音樂表現的是聲音的複雜變化，需要很高的智慧才能找到與眾不同的音響效果，所以，這是音樂的最高形式。
